AC not blowing cold air: quick checks you can do today
Before you call HVAC, check filters, thermostat settings, iced coils, and the outdoor unit. These fixes solve a lot of ‘no cold air’ calls.
When AC blows warm, it’s often an easy fix: filter, thermostat, or frozen coils.
1) Thermostat basics
- Set to Cool
- Lower setpoint by 3–5°F
- Fan on Auto (not On)
2) Replace the air filter
A clogged filter can choke airflow and freeze coils.

If you see ice:
- turn system off

- replace filter
4) Check the outdoor unit
- Clear leaves/debris
- Make sure it’s running (you should hear/feel it)
5) When to call HVAC
Call if:
- breakers trip
- coils re-freeze quickly
- outdoor unit won’t run
